So then what is the opposite of blessing? Obviously it is cursing.
What is cursing? I define cursing as imparting to the heart of another person what Satan says about that person.
Parents have the power to imprint either God's image or satan's image on the heart of their children, and this has a profound impact upon many areas of the son or daughter’s adult life.
This imprint directly affects a son or daughter's future marriage, personal finances, business success, educational pursuits, friendships and even physical health.
As I studied the concept of blessing in the Bible as it was lived out in the Hebrew culture of Jesus’ day, I discovered 7 stages of life that I believe God intended for there to be a specific impartation of blessing from parents.
In Jesus’ day, there were protective measures that God put in the culture that ensured that virtually everyone would be blessed at these 7 critical times.
If you simply did what everyone else did, you couldn’t miss out on being blessed at these times by your parents. It was natural in culture.
Today, we have very few of these traditions and protective measures left that would make sure that children would be blessed at these critical stages of life.
If we just talk about one of these critical stages, the time of puberty, we find that every culture of the world has had some sort of rite of passage.
Almost every culture has a way to release a boy to be a man and a girl to be a woman, except our modern culture.
The consequence of this in our modern society is that we have many immature, irresponsible boys and girls who have emotionally never grown up, living in the bodies of adult men and women.
This is why I wrote the book, The Power of a Parent’s Blessing - to instruct you exactly how to give the blessing to your children so they grow up to prosper as the man or woman God designed them to be.
In this book, you will learn in detail each of these seven critical stages of blessing and specific prayers you can pray to give that blessing!
